Displacement Troubles

Joy of joys. What in the name of sanity does it mean when your textures are fine, but (as seen by the awful stretching) the displacement maps disagree?

On top of that, another displacement map is in reverse. I’m needing it to just be clean around all sides with the letters popping through, but now it’s just a total cave in.
The map couldn’t be more simple, black with white letters on top. You’d think that’d be easy. I’ve tried reapplying and trying different shaders with the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First check your normals to make sure they are facing the right way. If they are then you can simply reverse your values (example: change 1 to -1 etc). As far as the jaggedy edges that is caused by the fact that your mesh is just not dense enough and perhaps some UV going on as well.
Finally can I as why you are doing it this way. Why not just create the text as separate objects and place them on top? This will save you loads on render time and be much easier to manage in general.
