Displacement map distorts texture, what could be the cause?

#1

Using ZBrush 4r5 when I export via GoZ into Maya a mesh with a color and displacement map, I am getting some ugly distortion on some parts of the color texture of the mesh. For example, it’s really obvious around the nose here, where it’s a smooth black line in ZBrush but once it reaches Maya in the form of displacement maps and such it has this unsightly distortion.

I think the problem might be that ZBrush uses SmoothUV for displacement maps automatically but it doesn’t do it for color texture maps and that this is the cause of the problem, but I don’t see any way to smooth uvs for color texture maps. What are the usual suspects for this kind of thing?

Thank you in advance!

is the mesh open in the nostrils…?
if yes close it… and you need enough geomentry to support the displacement…
if there are to less polygons in the base geo this wont work…

maybe bake between your second level and your highres mesh…

The mesh is sealed in the nostrils.

I baked to my second level and it did improve the results a decent amount but it didn’t resolve that particular issue with the paint being torqued.
