im interested in making a game on director mx, and would like to make a side scroller like contra or maybe an over head type like gauntlet or the old ps game loaded. anyways, i had some questions about that and was wondering if anyone knew of some tutorials that might help. thanks for any help you can give.

I’d suggest buying a book rather than trying to learn through online tutorials, as they aren’t very plentiful or helpful, and a lot of them will be written in lingo (BAD!) as opposed to Javascript (new and GOOD! I know both, btw). Director Users Group http://www.director-online.com/ is about the only one I can think of right now. Most of my professors that have taught classes on it have suggested books and have not had very much in the way of online tutorials available. I don’t feel like doing it right now, but if you google “Andy Phelps” (one of my professors who teaches director and has written a number of papers on the subject) you’ll find websites related to Director. His website is andysgi.rit.edu
Oh, and Javascript is better than Lingo because 1) Lingo is not always very intuitive, 2) Javascript is also used in webpages, and so learning how to program for the web will give you usable code in games, and vice versa.
