Digital whiteboard video process

#1

I’m trying to work out a workflow for creating whiteboard videos digitally. So far I have no problem having the lines draw out by recording a session in Corel Painter, saving and exporting as a movie. But I’d like to add a hand looking like it’s doing the drawing. This tutorial comes close (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rudheih3YNM), but instead of using additional screen capture software, I was wondering if there was a way to pull the brush position data from Painter and bring it into After Effects so I could attach the hand to it. That data MUST be in the script, which is exportable as a text file, and I’d love to find a way to extract it. Possible?

If you have the Adobe suite, you could use Illustrator for the drawing, then paste the paths in AE and have the stroke effect applied using all masks,or as a track matte revealing original drawing.
You can then use the Illustrator paths as motion paths in AE for the hand layer. Just copy the path from Ai and paste in AE layer animated position property.
It will require multiple instances though for something more than extremely simple.
