sitting through a class on Houdini and was wondering a little bit about mantra, and what its differences are to mental ray?
I looked up on google and couldn’t make any direct comparisons besides the fact that they do GI etc.
my 1st guess would be the algorithms used to render?
Mantra typically relies on a rasterizer for rendering. This is usually fast for a lot of FX work and motion blur.
mental ray has a similar mode but it’s typically preferred in mental ray to render with pure raytracing (no scanline. Rasterization is also a form of scanline)
