Hello,
My name is Bruno BAILLIART, i’m 23, and I just finished my studies of Visual effects.
This year, more than software techniques, I decided to work my drawing and painting skills first. I’m seaking a job of Matte painter and I would like to get some feedback from you expert guys about my demoreel. What is wrong in it (if everything is, u can tell :] ), what is missing ect.

Here is the link of my demo -> Vimeo

Thanks by advance !

hmmm if you ask me I’d say it’s too static for a matte painting reel…usually guys who hire expect some shots/action in there.

Hello Suirebit,
I’m totally agree with you, and that’s why I started serverals projects with moving shots and camera mapping thoses days.
Thanks for replying and if you have any other critics, feel free to tell them !

I agree with Suirebit, you need to show more than just pan still images, you need 3D camera projection, 2.5D matte painting ,also what I can see is that your style still needs to be polished, the first mattes look too painted, sketchy style, try to focus more on photoreal stuff like one of the last in your demo the destroyed city that would look great as a highly detailed matte painting , the composition, color and mood is great in that one, keep it up , also remeber that for matte painters a printed portfolio is 80% mandatory in most cases, that just makes your possibilities bigger , good luck!
