Demolition Dynamics and setup

I’m working on a project that requires demolition on a HUGE scale.Essentially I need to flatten a city by means of a nuclear blast.before i go any further it would probably be useful for you to know that im using Maya. I have already made a nuclear blast using fluids and I have exported a city from City Engine into maya.

Now I need your help. Where do I go next? I know of a few scripts and plugins that can help me but I want you guys to recommend the best options. I personally think blastcode is the way forward with the dynamics, however, city engine exports polygons and blastcode works with nurbs surfaces. I have seen something about glue objects but im not all that familier with blastcode.

What is the best way of pre shattering the buildings? is there a dynamic/proceduaral way of shattering the buildings?

Keep in mind that there are over a thousand buildings, although, I could just about get away with demolishing only the largest buildings which are clustered in the middle of the city.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
