Hey guys,

Still looking for any comments or suggestions. Is it good enough to hand out to company’s or should I keep at it and get a better reel together?

Please Help!

Hi Justin

I saw your 11SecClub post but decided to post here instead for no other reason than to make this place less dead.

There is no such thing as a best time to look for a job, sometimes you gotta to what you gotta do. But frankly there are lot of stuff you could improve on.

I like your spring board jump, its the best.
Your weight lift looks promising, but watch out for that last step, he is off balanced. Plus his feet should move quicker like a quick shuffle because he is under a huge load.
I’m not a big fan of the intro, His hand is glued to his mouth, You want to avoid anything that looks like its obvious IK or parented, fellow animators can catch on to stuff like that.
The dialogue is probably the weakest. Act it out. and pay attention to the eye darts, your eys are drifting all over.

I’m not too sure if I’m being too harsh, but I"ll be in the same shoes as you in a couple of months - job hunting with a reel. Best of luck to you.

Hey Desmond,

Thanks again for taking a look at my work I really appreciate it. Ill take a look at your feedback and see what I can improve on.

I see what you mean about the intro being really obvious IK was used. Any suggestions to fix it?

I’m not too happy with my dialog piece either it was my first attempt at dialog and I am having some trouble with it. Im reading “stop staring” by Jason Osipa hopefully that will help me with my facial expressions.

Dont worry your not being too harsh the only way I can improve is knowing all the errors I made, and then improve them.

Take it Easy,

Justin

About disguising the use of IK hands, Well … use reference! Notice how the other fingers brush against the chin, how you may start biting one fingernail then two, or bite with the front teeth then change to bitting with the molars. The repositioning of fingers, stuff like that

Most IK hands have the controller at the wrist, so naturally the hand movements will pivot off the wrist. But sometimes you want to pivot off your fingers like a sprinter off the blocks or biting your nails in your case.

You can try to have the head lead the action, and follow with the wrist, just like a pendulum, Problem is that the fingers are now the pivot, so you have to go in and key almost every frame.
Btw, I hate the fingers on moom they are too fat.
