If you want to specialized in character animation, then I think you should streamline your reel to include only your animation. I have the impression that you are marketing yourself as a sort of generalist with your current reel. Its not uncommon to have different reels types if you are casting a wide net.
Animation wise, You still have some way to go. Maybe go back and try a pendulum exercise, it would help you to get the tail right for the gryphon creature.
I like the advice of desmondying about specializing a little more.
Also, try to focus more on 1 or two shots and polish, polish, polish. You have a lot of different shots, which is ok, but quality trumps quantity in the eyes of most recruiters. It’s ok to only have 2 or 3 clips if they are great.
The biggest thing I noticed in your character animation is that you have a lot of completely static holds, especially on torsos, where the character’s weight isn’t shifting at all. This makes them look stiff and unnatural. Watch your 11-second club entry or the one with the bookshelf again with this in mind and it should be pretty obvious.
I would focus on animation though, as I think overall your modeling/texturing/lighting is coming across as still a bit chunky and unrefined, though mostly towards the end of the reel. I’d say you have a pretty good starting point, i’d just go back to your favorite animations and just try to polish the crap out of them.
Good luck!
Hey guys,
Thanks for the feed back. I will definitely rework these and take your advice to heart about weight, static holds and specialization of my reel. This will help out on my short film alot!
