Demo of a Syntheyes-Blender Workflow

#1

Hey!
I made a short demo of a possible Syntheyes-Blender Workflow. Syntheyes is an awesome tool for matchmoving / camera-tracking, with a very fast and reliable export to Blender and lots of other formats. So, for anybody interested in putting some 3d in your footage, Syntheyes is definitely worth a look.

Hi Sebastian,

I've already posted a comment on your blog but I thought I'd post here as well to get some more opinions.

I'm looking to buy 3d matchmoving software with Blender compatibility and I discovered PFHoe (it has exporters for all major apps).

Has anyone used this with Blender? The reason I ask is that it’s even more affordable than Sytheyes at just $99 for the base version and $200 for pro. Any thoughts?

thanks!

Hey!
I would recommend Syntheyes. PFHoe may be cheaper for now, but I think you will thank yourself if you buy Syntheyes, just because of its speed and features. For example I use Syntheyes also as my favorite and fastest movie-converter. It is just performing well in every aspect, and it also gives you object tracking. I do not know PFHoe very well, but I tested it and compared it with Syntheyes. In my opinion Syntheyes won. http://www.vimeo.com/10438492
But I have to say, PFHoe is also pretty straightforward and produces good tracks. If you can do without the speed, bells and whistles of Syntheyes, PFHoe might be a good option. But then you should go for the Pro version, except if you can live without the option to use image-sequences.
But both apps have a demo, so you can try for yourself.

Hi Sebastian,

I just watched the tracker shoot out video you did. I see what you mean there is a drastic difference between the speed of the two apps. You mention that the PF Hoe interface is pretty straight forward, this is a good thing for tracker noobs like myself.

However after seeing your video comparison I’ll give Syntheyes a serious look.

thanks for taking the time!

I hope I’m not taking away from Sebastian’s thread, but if you are looking for an open-source solution there is Virtual-Dub’s Deshaker script:

@Sebastian: Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it and have started experimenting with the demo version of syntheyes.

@BnBGobo99: what does that have to do with Sebastian’s video? Your program is something completely different. If you want an open source alternative to syntheyes you could check voodoo tracker.

:argh: You’re right, lol, guess I didn’t read the post too clearly. :wip: I stand whipped and corrected.

VooDoo tracker isn’t open source, it is closed source and free for noncommercial usage.
