Dead Moon

#1

Maybe it is more illustration than matte bacause 90% is painting and 10% is photo.

An earth type planet with the destroyed moon. The debrises are around the planet in a ring. The planet could be the Earth in the future:)

I hope it is not too bad…

Hi, i think you should enhance the contrast between the dark and the light.

It looks nice so far.

I am a sucker for this type of art! really great job on the paint rendering. No crits from me

I would like to see more of this type of stuff here. I try and avoid posting my painterly environment stuff here to avoid the whole “whats matte painting argument”. But I really hope that doesnt happen and you keep posting this stuff!

Very inspiring dude!

Matt, you shouldn’t be afraid  Post your stuff regardless what some may say - others may find it great or inspiring

I think this is a nice paint, but the planet need more blur and atmosphere

Thanks the support!

Original picture size is 4500x2500px so the palnet has a lot of hours to painted it.

Matt, yes post what you have.

Ppzek, it is depend on your screen. On my screen i tryed to enchance the contrast but a lot of details burned out.

suirebit, A bit inspirated me your Kobol painting;)

The absolute contrast looks fine to me, but I think your starfield could be improved. Right now, the “black” looks blue, which implies that there’s some kind of light scattering going on. That vacuum should probably be the darkest part of the image, even darker than the shadows on the asteroids, which might have just a little bit of light bouncing off them.

That aside, it’s a gorgeous painting, and I envy your skill!

nice start, but I think in order to make something more photo real, you have to make the space way darker, add way more atmosphere to the planet and work with attention to detail , to the ocean line, texture variation etc you can find this tutorial useful

wow james, a deviantart link  That tutorial is good atmosphere wise, but I wouldnt recommend it for the texture, which is bad…

Thanks the help.
I updated the first post.
Maybe now too much blur on the planet edge :S
