Hello,
I recently set up my rendering farm to work with mental ray DBR.
I managed to make it work fine with all the satellites (4 of them) except for the maps. If i try to use the distributed maps option though, the mental ray console tell me everytime that it “can’t open file for reading (Permission denied)” for every map and several buckets render red frames.
I checked that all the path are in UNC and everything is shared on the network.
I tried almost any combination of network paths, but nothing works. The only successful attempt was to copy the map at the exact same path locally on each computer, but such a solution is unusable on a real job.
Backburner rendering works very well, and DBR without the “distributed maps” option also.
My 4 computers are all running 3dsMax2010 on Windows 7 Professionnal 64bits.
Any help would be appreciated…
DBR mental ray problem
try to add user access to the raysay service.
that said eventually, re-consider your strategy about textures managing.
if you plan to use DBR, performance wise, your textures have to be local.

Thanks for the answer.
What (and where) is the raysay service ? I can’t find it…
I guess I could create a folder with all the textures for all my projects and copy it to all the computers… But that would restrict me from adding additional maps to a new project, unless I copy them to every computer manually. Eventually it would take as much time as a render with my main computer.
Unless I find a windows utility that does that automatically.
