DAZ3D Hexagon vs Modo 501

#1

Hello all.

I am think about geting a modo501 licence. Right now I am using Hexagon 2.5 for modeling (and somewhat buggish version, and still freeware, of sculptrics) and Cinema 4d R11 for the rest. But some features I have seen on demovids on modo should be nice. But is little mutch money for “nice”.

Is it worth the cost

it was for me, Roger. modo brought a lot more features to the table than hex. And I found it more intuitive to use.

Yes the extra sugar ontop is worth the money you pay for it. It’s not just there for looks, it all fills a purpose too. I suggest you grab the trial and play with it for 30 days and get a better sense of what you are paying for. But having used most other 3d applications out there Modo and Cinema4D are the only applications that really feel like home.

I use both Hexagon and Modo, they realy both can only be compared on the modeling front, as Modo goes way behond that, and the price reflects that.

Hexagon dose work better for some than others, and yes the PC platform is more stable. Modo has a great set of modeling tools athough somewhat over reached in the way they are executed, compared to a more stright forward aproach that Hexagon does things.

More features tends to have a double effect. On one hand you have more options, but on the other, the simple tasks are no longer simple, they have too many steps to their execution.

I work with both side by side, because what Hexagon lacks Modo makes up for, and what Modo makes a long process of, Hexagon allows me to move allot faster for some core basics in Modeling. If you cant run Hexagon, or have too many issues with it, I would have no trouble recommending Modo, because its fast becoming a industry modeler, and has a super render engine behind it.
