Why AE CS5 is showing 0 processors to be used (i got 8 threads) and i can make only 2-3 frames of preview? I am having 12gb of memory.
CS5 0 processors and slow render time
Just bumped into this thread and maybe this will help (at least it’s something to try)… do you have many quicktime videos used as source footage within your project? If you do then lose them as soon as possible - convert them to TGA sequences (or whatever image sequence format of choice).
I generally don’t use QTs as source but recently working inhouse on a project (all Win7 64bit using i7’s with 12 gigs of RAM) I proxied alot of comps as QT’s (QT PNG) and the entire AE project started crawling. During render the frame times suddenly started going through the roof - from 6 secs per frame to 40 odd and most of the time AE was hanging on retrieving frame/footage operations. This was reproduced on 3 other workstations in the studio.
Lesson for me was: don’t ever think of using QTs again. Buggy as hell.
I didn’t start any project yet in AE CS5, just wanted to encode one avi file to wmv. On CS4 the time would be around 20 minutes, on CS5 over 40 and with no possibilitie to preview the footage. I have latest Quicktime alternative installed and i need that plugin.
Could be a Quicktime issue as there isn’t currently a 64-bit version for Windows (afaik).
I’m actually confused as to how AE manages Quicktime support at all in a 64-bit environment (since 3DS Max doesn’t).
However if AE is not actually seeing all your threads (in Preferences: Memory& Multiprocessing) then that is a different issue.
Post more info about your exact problem if you want more help…
Thank you for Your time, but i have rolled back to CS4. It’s also supports multiprocessing so it will be good enough.

Vedran
