CS4 help

#1

Hello,

we just got cs4… and for some reason… when I work on a larger pixelrate like 2048x2048 the image or ps starts acting very slow… it looks like it’s almost freezing…

we use windows vista 64bit… and yes… I don’t have any other issues, 8GB of RAM and a really nice 1GB GeForce Graphics card with the newes driver installed…

are there any special settings in photoshop ?

thank you so much for help

The machine should be able to handle an image that big so long as you don’t have ten thousand layers that you aren’t telling us about ;-).

There are memory and disk cache settings. Look under Options: Performance.

actually I have just two layers…

I do have a NVidia GeForce GT 220… not the best but not the worst.

I checked the newest driver… and yes… installed it online again to get sure… but still… this weired thing… I will check the Disc Cahce and Memory settings… anything I should consider about that ?

any setting syou would recommend ?

thank you so much

You reminded me (sorry, I’m slow  that some of the new features require OGL mode and OGL mode can be slow. I turned it off like five minutes after starting CS4. So much for the cute new features (how come Painter could do canvas rotation like eighty years ago w/o video card support? and hello sanity. Let me look for the button. Back in a sec…

OK, it’s also on the performance tab under preferences. “Enable OpenGL Drawing”. Try turning that off.

ok… thank youy that helped…

but one more thing… I was thinking that you can paint with the brush in 32bit ?

when I open a 32 bit (hdri) I still can’t use the brush tool, or anything else…
so it’s not true that CS4 allows you to paint in 32bit, right ?

thx a lot

Created a new 32-bit image. Click the brush tool. Tried painting. Got a dialog box says :

Could not use the brush tool because it does not work with 32 bit per channel images.

yes… indeed. there is no way with 32bit and painitng… so who was letting us know CS4 can handle 32bit in full modus… I mean… even painting with brush …

just a dream ?

thx a lot

I own Photoshop CS4 Extended 64 bit and have no problem to paint in 32 bit.

#9

wow… so how does it work ?

what do we make wrong ?

can you use the brush tool ?
please let us know step by step, that’s great.

thx a lot

I am just guessing here, but you probably have the standard version of Photoshop CS4 installed? Many of the tools do not work in 32bit mode in standard. They do work in the extended version, though: I just tested in both 32bit and 64bit PH Extended CS4, and it works without a hitch.

This may also explain why some people insist that a tool is supported in 32bit color mode, and other state it is not. Lots of confusion there.
