CS4 duplicate?

#1

In CS3 i can rightclick and choose to make a duplicate of the image. In CS4 I cant find this function. Is it gone or am I just stupid?

#2

I’ve never had CS3 but once used PaintShopPro8 where you just click Ctrl V to paste into a new image - I’ve never found this ability in any version of PhotoShop but I now also have CS4 so…

if anyone does know how to create a copy of an image in CS4 I would also REALLY like to know.

#3

Glad to hear I’m not the only one ever using this features. Com onThere must be someone out there who knows whats happend to it?

#4

Duplicating an image? As in copy/paste in Explorer?

Or are you talking about duplicating a layer inside of an image? CTRL+J creates a new layer out of a selection. So if you have nothing selected it will create a duplicate layer of the entire thing.

#5

No I mean right clicking the upper image list bring out a panel where you can choose to make a duplicate of the image your working with. Either will all layers intact or meged down. Very handy. But where is it in CS4?

#6

Apparently the right-click menu has been stripped from CS4 which is a shame as resizing the image/canvas was possible from that menu too.
IIRC Photoshop for OS X never had this menu in earlier versions either.

Another thing that bugs me is the “inertia” when panning an image. I sure hope it can be turned off, haven’t really had time to look for that setting yet.

@Thykka

go into general preferences and turn off ‘flick panning’

#8

I use CS4 and I have the ability to duplicate a layer by simple right clicking the layer and hitting the duplicate button.

#9

It was an option for duplicating the entire image, not just a layer.

I really miss having it too, since I used it for Duplicating images, resizing images, and resizing the canvas. It was great to have all those available with a simple right-click, but it’s gone in CS4.

For right now I’ll add it to my list of features that PS used to have but decided to remove for some reason or other. :frowning:

Ah yes, I see what you mean. But you can still go to Image > Duplicate in CS4…assign a hotkey to that or something maybe as an alternative.

#11

you can also try …window>arrange>new window for “”

#12

Learn something every day - still in cs3 so i will have to use…

#13

As someone else stated it’s located at Image>Duplicate at the top of your screen. If you don’t want it there then you could always setup an action for it as well as a hotkey (again as already stated). But that duplicate command there has the ability still to duplicate everything or to merge the layers that are currently turned on into a new document.

Hope it helps
