Creating DOF in Vue or how to fake it

#1

Hey all,

I have been experimenting with trying to create DOF in Vue xStream 7.4 and failing badly. Can someone assist me with a method to come up with dof in Vue or fake it in post. I have seen a few people say they use Z-Depth in Photoshop to do that… errr ok I appreciate that but have no idea on how to do it.

Can anyone help me with this one. I am trying to get dof happening in the image below for the mountains in the background.

Cheers

Hi

you can fake DOF manually in photoshop using a gaussian blur and a gradient:

Use z-depth as a mask, then use the lens bur filter in photoshop.

There’s also the very good photoshop plugin Depth of Field Pro by Richard Rosenman
it can do batch rendering, thus, making animations easier with DOF

z-depth and lens blur is great. Allows for so much control over the blur using the settings of the filter in PS… awesome tip.

I have an issue with the look of my water but I will post a sample in a new topic.

Cheers… this was a big help.
