creating an alpha from an open rotoshape?

#1

hello, I need to create the effect of some thin wires, with no texture, so ideally I would use an open rotoshape, is it possible to create an alpha channle out of an open rotoshape like a line? (for example a two points rotoshape) I know I can obviously do it if I close the rotoshape, but for what I need it would be much faster to just make open rotoshapes, if it’s not possible to do this in nuke is there a way to do it in after effects? thank you!

For straight line open-close curve is enough. For n-points line
open-close curve, add n-2 points on the useless last edge and
nudge them to the respective “useful” points. Erode alpha or
something like that and you are done.

Thank you, ok on a straight line that works! however I need it on a curved line like a b-spline, could you explain to me the process more step by step? I didn’t get where I have to add the 2 extra points? thank you

Basically it is the same as creating a
ribbon with sharp edges and squeeze
the points by pairs. It does not look
good with b-spline.Maybe if you
make it a little longer.I realise this
not a very fast or good solution.
If someone has a script for this it
would be better.
Of course you can duplicate similar
wires.
