Creating a Proper Duotone in Maya?

#1

I’m trying to make a duotone using Maya utility nodes but some details are lost in translation.
You can see an illustration of the problem here:

P.S. I can’t use PS because what I am working is a texture procedurally created in Maya.

Thank you for your time.

I may just have bad eyes, but I’m not seeing any loss of detail.

The green shade looks like it tints blue just like the original bright orange gets darker

Thanks for the response mate. There is a loss of detail mate. The basis of my conclusion is through color picking. Color pick the input image and output image. You’d see that the input image has a greater contrast and the output image almost has none.

The issue probably is that you are remapping based on value. But that shift from orange to red is more than just a value change, hue changes too. That is why it appears to have more contrast. Take a look at the luminance contrast of your input image … it is probably not that big. But only the value is actually used to remap your colours.

Hi Colt! You are correct. There is little difference in luminance/value. I never thought it that way.
With this in mind, is there a way for my graph to include the hue/saturation changes or is not possible theoretically speaking?

I did try to plug in Hue and Saturation instead of the value but I get weird results. It seems like only the Value parameter is feasible for duo tone/black and white conversion. Correct me if I’m wrong.
