I have over 500 brushes in photoshop and i want to convert them all into alphas for mudbox. mudbox doesn’t have a control falloff for alphas like zbrush does where i can create like a vignette look on my alpha. i have to manually do it for the alpha. my problem is i have 500 of these and need an automated way of somehow adding that vignette look to my borders on every alpha and the sizes of the alphas all change so it would have to do it based on size. anyone have any idea how to automatically do this? i know when gnomon releases alphas they have hundreds and hundreds with a nice falloff on the alpha already, so i know it can be done. any ideas gang? much appreciated.
create a vignette look on all my brushes (for falloff as alphas in mudbox)
Worst case find a technique that is size specific and resample your alphas. I’d THINK that resample up big, apply, resample down would be the order.
Other than that, I’m on Elements 2 right now so I’m not familiar w/ the capabilities and limitations of actions.
Create an Action that does the following
[ol]
[li]Create a layer above your image with its Fill set to 0% (notice I said “Fill” not “Opacity”, both are at the top of the Layers Palette)[/li][li]Fill that layer with any color[/li][li]Apply a Gradient Overlay to that layer that uses a radial gradient, with white on the inside and black on the outside. Set the Blend Mode in the Layer Effects window to Multiply. (Gradient Overlay is found in the Layer Effects menu at the bottom of the Layers Palette… the one that looks like “fx”)[/li][li]Flatten the image[/li][li]Save to a folder you’ve set up beforehand.[/li][/ol]Then you can apply this simple action to any image to give it the vignette you’re looking for. Should be pretty simple if you’re comfortable with Actions. Also, you may need to tweak the gradient used beforehand to have the desired falloff.
