Create a spik without making the joint rotate

#1

For example, i have a joint chain with 5 child joint. What i’m trying to archive is create a spik for it without making the joint rotate. And the joint chain is not a straight line.
If i use spik with default option, the joint will rotate after i created it.
And i can’t create the curve first either, don’t know which cv’s postion are.
So is there anyway to create a curve or spik without making the joint rotate in one step?

Anything would help. Thanks

Hi, for a curvy joint chain I think it would be a good idea to make a specific curve to fit your skeleton.

For curvy joint chain (i’m assuming joint chain has zero rotations to start with and identical joint orientations)

--make ep curve with cvs snapped to each joint (make sure there are same number of cvs as joints, snap tool is helpful) [picture](http://flic.kr/p/bsrUrA)

--in spine ik settings reset the settings, all off except root on curve, and auto simplify curve [picture](http://flic.kr/p/bsrUs5)

         --open outliner
select start joint then end joint and then curve

         Hope this helps,

         Regards,

wow, thank dude. I never use the EP curve before, i used to go with CV curve. I confuse what’s their difference. Anyway, thank for your help. Simply the best.

Hi,
I think if the curve settings degree is linear, which is what i’d recommend for building the curve for the curvy spine ik, using ep or cv curve give the same results.http://www.flickr.com/photos/76278515@N02/7011191763/

If curve settings is not linear I think the ep curve generally makes more cvs than the cv curve because i think ep does more work than cv to make sure the curve it makes passes through the places we click. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/76278515@N02/7011191815/](http://www.flickr.com/photos/76278515@N02/7011191815/)

Some other differences if curve settings are not linear may be
-- cv curve has a cv at every place we click and no more, ep curve has a cv at every place we click and at other places we didn't click.
-- cv curve has 2 edit points versus ep curve has an edit point for every place we clicked [http://www.flickr.com/photos/76278515@N02/7011191719/](http://www.flickr.com/photos/76278515@N02/7011191719/)
-- cv curve 2 end edit points may not be at first and last place we clicked to build curve (multiple knots off), ep curve end edit points are at first and last place we clicked

I might have made some mistakes in this, I just basically tried this out for only linear and degree 3 so i don't know if its the same for other degrees.

 Hope this helps,
 Regards
 Nate

To Nate
so that’s how it work. I got it, thank for your help. I’m very grateful
