Crashing when rewinding

#1

This old chestnut again.

Maya crashes when I rewind the timeline after caching nParticles.
I do not scrub the timeline but use the rewind button.

This is a problem that used to happen quite often, then it went away for a bit with 2013 and 2013.5, but now I am seeing this happen more and more often in 2014.

I do get the error message “Fatal Error Occurred. Attempting to save (a temp file)” and that file is usually OK to open and Save As

Does anyone have any tactics to avoiding this annoying bug?

Thanks.

I haven’t noticed this behavior myself so I can’t say for sure but… what happens if you save first before rewinding? Just curious.

Hi hkspowers, thanks for the reply.

Yes, saving before rewinding does help and I always do save (if I remember…)
Crashes do still happen after saving then rewinding, but not as often.

As this is an intermittent problem, it’s going to be impossible to replicate reliably and pin-point. I might start to submit those crash logs…

I make a habit of saving nucleus files one frame before nucleus calculation begins. seems to be more stable that way.

Perhaps it is running out of ram, if you have a lot of particles. At any rate if you have a scene that crashes when caching please submit it in a bug report, if you can.
