Could you help me decide?

I’m currently a High School student studying in the United Arab Emirates,
I want to study 3D and Visual Effects in College, in Universities in SCAD, SVA, Ringling, Pratt, etc.
But my portfolio is not good, hardly have one since i barely had time for art during school days so my art is kind of terrible. So even if i do get accepted, I won’t get a scholarship.
I have two options…
Attend a Community College in the United States this year and then transfer to the college of my choice after the 1st or 2nd year.
But the only problem is i doubt i’ll be able to afford the rest of the 2-3 years if i don’t get a scholarship.

Spend the entire year learning art and making a portfolio, and then apply for colleges in 2015. That a way i have a chance of getting a scholarship but if i don’t it will be a waste again.

Now i want a degree because i want to be able to work in other countries, I know that you can learn this by yourselves at home.
Do you guys have any other, better suggestions?

There are many aspects to the “3D and Visual Effects” world. If you are willing to enter this world from the technical side (programming and such), you may find that your school choices and opportunities may change and possibly for the better in your situation.

What i meant was, things like Modelling and 2D-3D compositing…But i want to study animation as well, but mainly specialising in that.
