Cool lightwave plugin/previewer !

Hey Onethread,

the cctv is actually rendered to an offscreen display. So, the shadows are
correct everywhere. The monster shadows itself, the floor and the screen.
(the screen displays a second camera that is also filming a corner of the
screen). Download the exe, that will clearly demonstrate it … the link is between
the second and third picture …

Another fun thing is that in pimTools, cctv is not on a surface level, but on
an image level. (with the (pim)image shader). Which means you can use the
offscreen display as any channel … You can actually also do this with a
realtime camera (e.g. webcam), … the combination of these two things allows
for some interesting live effects … (or combined with the chromakey.pimshader
you can do live chromakeying … or use pimshaders to do hsb, blur, … ).

That’s just insane
Endless possibilities…

I didn’t read the whole thread, so excuse me if I ask an old question:
Any info on release dates?

Enki[Mute] - How close are you guys working with NewTek on this plugin?
It looks almost too good to be true. I can’t imagine that your team and NT are not working closley together durring this plugins development. If so that would be mind blowing. Excellent work. Obviously keep us posted.

#164

This really could make a very impressive next gen game engine as well as being a great to for Lw.

#165

Holy crap.

Dillon

#166

From what I understand this is done by Enki himself, no third party (Newtek).

#167

Something i noticed running your latest demo, is it me or is the texture filtering for the Normal Map / Specular map pretty low (Bi-Linear)?
I see highlights as a patch of slightly smudged squares (could be my nVidia 6800GT, not sure if Ati cards show the same…or maybe i’m just impatiently nitpicking on a beta version)

Still, very very cool work, keep it up guys.

#168

Hey red oddity …

Sorry for that … programmer graphics … I compressed the jpg’s to quality 60 to reduce the
filesize of the resulting exe … that’s causing the blocky artefacts. My Bad
If you use hi-q jpegs it would be just fine offcourse …

grtz,

e.

I continue to be amazed and am excited about it. Just get it “right” out of the gate. At least as right as can be done with some beta testing when appropriate. The Maxwell renderer release (disaster in progress) is an example of how not to release software.

I’m sure we’d all love this to be done now, but not if it isn’t quite done. And I"m sure you’d find a group of folks eager to be beta testers when the time is right. You might already, but I have not paid that close attention.

Looks great thusfar. Keep up the good work!

This is a nice one too … model and anim converted from Poser

reduced and baked tangent space normalmaps. and with realtime softened shadows.

#171

Hey man! Is there any possibility to make this video avaliable again. Wanted to show it to a friend.

Cheers!

#172

this is looking really awesome.

:bounce:

#173

So, who are the testers? Has anyone seen this thing in action other than movie clips?

#174

rather extreme length to go to for a fake - but then agian guess somone might be that annoying

#175

i’d wonder how they ‘fake’ the standalone EXEs. I suppose with bink! video or something and no AA. haha. i dunno.

#176

Bloody hell, they’re on to us. Bit sad though, given the fact that we’ve spent days, weeks even, trying to get the bink videos to play at framerates matching the computer’s performance, haha

#177

Do a google search on “executable video file”

#178

Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen this thread and from what I’ve read and seen, this looks like an awesome plugin:) . I currently run FPrime to create all my renders but never really use it for animations, since I’m still learning the “How To’s” in creating an animation. This would definately be a great tool to have in one’s Lightwave box of goodies!

@ Enki[Mute] - I’ve noticed that in a few of your test shots, you use Poser models and animations. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me how you import these Poser models and animations into lightwave, while keeping the surface and texture information intact. I have both Poser 6 and Lightwave 8.5, but the only way that I know of to import the poser models into lightwave, is to save them as lightwave ver5 object which doesn’t seem to keep the surface and texture information intact. Are you using a third party plugin to import these models and animations, or could I be doing something wrong?!
I apologize for the slight detraction from the present thread (don’t mean to do it), it’s just that I’ve been banging my head against this poser to lightwave issue:banghead: for a while and haven’t found any of the answers yet. Thank you very much in advance

#179

There was a movie showing how the plugin worked in Layout. Pretty much like a Camtasia recording. Though, that video is not avaliable anymore. If I remember correctly, you had to do calculation inside LW, like an advanced Preview, but boy was it eyecandy compared to the original preview.

tester here.
all i will say is, get clean undies.
