Cool lightwave plugin/previewer !

#21

HowardM; The graphics coder sighed profoundly upon my eager asking about Volumetrics  . So not in the near future I’m afraid. Shaders are the number one priority for now.

#22

Suppose there’s not a price known yet?

#23

Nope, not yet.

#24

so is this a replace for the openGL window in LW ?
if so will this have super OpenGl speed for Character animation ?:bounce:
Give me a buy button
I WANT IT :buttrock:

#25

Hmmm, would it be possible to script it, so I can replace my use of Macromedia Director with this one…?

#26

Yes, is most certainly is. And as for animation, if you use FK, absolutely ! For IK, you’ld have to bake out the keys. Then turn off Lightwave’s deformations and create your animation within the Pim Previewer with comfortable framerates. Here’s an example of a mocap scene;

#27

wot:) hehe i am back to office to continue rumble u
are there any chance to see IK fully suported LIKE worley did in near future?
i know it would probable suffer a bit of share data speed but i dont mind if i get frame drop from 60 to 30 as long it is realtime:) lol.
tell guys to do some smart buffering:)
how fast is curent refresh ?
this mocap need frame cleaning:) or da robot is in love with vodka.
how it handle OGL transparency? will it show off ALPHA textures corectly?
and will we be able to see procedurals in future?

#28

Yes, there is full scripting support. (Assigning objects to subscenes, adding sound, tracking subscene animations, switchable surfaces for mouseovers etc.,…)

#29

I Just tried to run the demo. It went fullscreen and changed my desktop resolution. All my desktop icons have been displaced! :banghead: Cool demo but please warn the users about that resolution change.

#30

Hey, it’s Mav3rick again:)

  • Fprime doesn’t calculate IK, it just get the shape of the objects from Lightwave. But IK won’t be supported in the near future, shaders are next, then physics.

  • Refresh is instant for surfaces and timeline, and there is a small delay when saving your objects and scene.

  • Instances are sorted to ensure correct rendering of transparant surfaces. Transparant polygons are drawn back face first, then front face. So alpha textures won’t be a problem at all. There’s also a no Z impression option for glows etc.

  • Procedurals come automatically with GLSL shaders

  • The scene is a Poser scene converted by the programmer , so that figures
If you feel like frame cleaning…

#31

Sorry about that Dennik,

Exe has been replaced with a windowed version.

#32

Oooh, thats great. Oh happy days! ECMA/JScript type scripting?

#33

btw. how come the lw opengl display is far off and slow if you compare your pim viewer since both are opengl? is it that bad?..

mlon

#34

wout heheh naa thanks i would really like to hang that keys to you…:]

ESHRA: well we could soon see lot of new stuff from ELMAR but i would like wout guys and newtek and elmar put heads together:)

and yea
ESHRA when u will get some coder to update that CHANLUM ? why antti wavk or mlon not want to contribute anymore?

#35

hey mav3rick

i am mlon… both antti and wavk are doing different things and are
quit bussy. currently i am in talks with newtek to get the stuff sorted out and get a mac port up but it isnt going fast. there will be an update but i dont know when…
i hope elmar and consorts will come up with a cool’n’fast opengl update for lw.

sorry for being off-thread wout, im really excited 'bout PIM

cheers,

mlon

#36

i wanna pimp my lw

bring it on wout

#37

Pimp Lugin ?

Eshra, that’s quite allright

#38

WOW! Very interesting stuff. I hope this thing can boost LW’s OGL performance.

#39

i must be retarted cause i cant get the exe files to open…am i missing somthing…i click…then get a frozen desktop :banghead:

#40

Hi eshra,

The lw preview in scene from the screenshot is so slow because of the 250k polys in the scene … LW really can’t handle large polycounts … pim has no probs with huge scenes because of much more intelligent culling mechanisms …

The lw previewer also manages to totally *** spherical reflections … and can’t really handle
multitexture the way it should. Pim will handle all types of multi-texture (also multi-layer on
the color channel), although the sample screenshot just has diffuse and reflection textures applied …

The pimtools plugin was originally designed to facilate content creation for products
based on my (distributed, and if so desired stereoscopic …) pim 3D engine. However, since it’s display is way faster than that of LW, and the rendered result is often much closer to
the LW rendered result the plugin works just as well as a ā€˜LW-accelerator’ …

There are other advantages … pimTools runs as a seperate process which means if you
have a multiprocessor or hyperthreading machine, you can work with 1M poly scenes just
as smooth as with no scene loaded …

If anyone has an opinion about why you would like a plugin like pimTools, I would love
to find out … the options i see are :

  • LW acceleration (really cool to be able to preview your camera path smoothly …)
  • creation of standalone viewer exe’s (e.g. kiosk applications, without leaving lw …)
  • creation of screensavers
  • creation of web-applets (under construction)

And off course, any other creative feedback would be greatly appreciated !
