Cool lightwave plugin/previewer !

#241

Was that info in the Video?..Please tell us where you read/heard that information?

#242

no that info was not in the video.

i somehow came into possession of a certain standalone .exe. :wink:

#243

I have watched the AVI. Simply A W E S O M E

This gives lightwave another dimension.

Iwantitiwantitiwantit !

#244

so. um. yeah.

any new info? :twisted:

#245

Should we callit Lightwave 4D then!?!?!?!?!? :rolleyes:

#246

I have watched the video and all i can say is i’m already in love with it. is there any (really ANY) info on when in might be complete. I alrady have a project that is so much in need of this, but if i don’t come out soon we’ll have to stick to macromedia director (and i very dont like that).

keep us fed with updates

#247

DUDE! I’m all like Say Wha??? Thats F***n’ Awsome! I cant even wrap my mind around the posibilities… Can you pimp Modeler too? (Ha ha)… No really, can you?:surprised

#248

Hmmm thinks…
Lightwave AD (Alternate Dimension)
Lightwave Portal

:slight_smile:

#249

This was first announced over 7 months ago… we’ve all been waiting patiently. You’ll be best served to just get your project done with current tools until this plugin is complete. Best not to count on a miracle release in the coming days/weeks.

#250

True. Just, it looks like tailored for what I need. I’ve seen it then, but didn’t think it was a such big deal. However, when I saw last preview movie my jaw dropped and it’s still in the same position. When I told about this to my fellow Maya user and when he saw it he claimed: Finaly someone did it, unfortunately not for Maya :wink:

Looking forward to more news…

#251

Same here… and I’m a director user as well, so this really has me salivating on the sidelines.

My only advice is to keep the cake in the oven until it is done :slight_smile: Nobody likes paying for alpha/beta wares.

#252

NAHHH. At least Lightwave 5D just to kick CINEMA 4D in the ass, and … mmmm, don’t forget we need an ‘X’ like any other decent NEW, REVOLUTIONARY, INNOVATIVE AND AWESOME piece of software. An application without an sparkling ‘X’ in its name is like a SUPERHERO without an INMENSE C**K.

So, something like Lightwave 5DX should be fine, or Lightwave VDX.

BTW, why ‘X’ ? It’s something subtlely related with porn ? Are MICROSOFT (XP), APPLE (MACOS X), DISCREET (MAX), SOFTIMAGE (XSI), COREL (Corel Draw X3), MACROMEDIA (MX), etc., trying to attract users with the old trick of sex ? :).

And Adobe ? What means CS ? ‘Coitus …’

Those guys are evil :slight_smile:

Hey All,

I’d like to thank everyone visiting and posting to this thread for the input and
comments they provided during the pim development over the last few months. Your
feedback, bug reports, and the betatesters I met via the cg community have really
been of great value to the team and myself.

The first pim release, which will be focused on it’s use for the creation of
interactive applications and webpages, has been on feature-stop since the beginning
of this year.

The test and development team are now focussing on bugfixing, documentation and
samples. And Riche3, and others, rest assured that we are not commiting to a release
date, but rather to a release quality. The beta-team will have to give us a green
light first … :wink:

I do promise to keep the community informed on our status, and I’ll release some
new samples, or even already a couple of tutors (interested ?) at regular times.

So long, and thanks for all the fish !

#254

Yes, yes, yes! We want more demos, tuts (and of course the real thing)! :smiley:

#255

I am trying to make some generic scripts that are reusable so games and interactive 3D in general will be easy fast to produce with (pim). Enki has provided me with some nice mathematical formulas that makes it possible to easily do local transformations of objects (moving and rotating on local axis). So expect to see some scripts such as this:

#include functions.js; // has a lot of built in functions and object types

  var myCar;

   function OnStart(){
     myCar = new Car("car_model:Layer1");
     myCar.topSpeed = 210; // Kph
   }

   function OnFrame(){
     if(keyIsDown("up")
   	myCar.move(10,"kph");
     if(keyIsDown("left")
    	myCar.turn(-10,"kph");
     if(keyIsDown("right")
    	myCar.turn(10,"kph");
   }

And that functions.js file could ofcourse be contributed to by everyone, so it will be a somewhat open source project where people can add their own stuff to and suggest improvements.

petterms,
I know you are a Shockwave3D user - does this mean you will throw away Director?

I am amazed at what this can do (like everyone here) and I am looking for a scriptable development environment that can provide real time 3D visuals.

Where can I find more programmer info this amazing plugin?

thanks again.

#257

Nah, I use the tools I can get the job done with, and as such Director has a large amount of uses outside displaying interactive 3D content. Eventually when (pim) has all the features I would normally need Director for, then I’ll most likely do my projects in (pim). Remember that Director can integrate Flash files and easily communicate with Flash, has a built in XML parser so it’s easy to create dynamic content, a multi user server that supports up to 2000 connections, a basic version of Havok, and the 3D format is a 3D equivalent to jpeg: compressed and streaming, so it still has its uses… but not by the end of this year if (pim) continues at its current pace and Adobe chooses to not update the ShockWave3D engine.

Think of it this way, we didnt necessarily stop using LW’s own renderer when fPrime came out. I’ll keep learning and testing (pim) as a beta tester while commercial projects gets done in Director for now.

#258

Here is a test I am working on…

Nothing grand but it has bump maps and a specular map that make sure that only the ocean is affected by specularity :)The nebulae in the starfield is a texture in layer 2 of the color slot, set to additive and with its own UVs, stuff that isnt possible in ShockWave3D (without a whole lot of scripting).

#259

You’re on LW 8.2 I see… how is PIM on 8.3 or 8.5? Any difference?

#260

Nah, its just my PC here at work hasnt been updated. PIM is all the same in the different versions (as far as I can tell).
