Cool lightwave plugin/previewer !

#201

Oh, come on. This is too good to believe…in fact…umm…I refuse to believe it until you send me a full-fledged copy of this thing!

Most exciting thing since FPrime.

So, what´s delaying you from releasing this already and getting rich and buying an island to contain your own alive-dinosaurs park? I mean, any probs yet to solve?

#202

You better believe it  and yes it is the most exciting thing since FPrime. To me personally, its even more exciting than FPrime.

#203

seriously. i would rather see a web-based demo than an exe or avi anyday. plus there’s more chance of that working on a mac right now.

#204

Very impressive!

What video card(s) are adequate (and optimum) for PIM? Is there a minimum main CPU speed requirement? Minimum RAM?

#205

Hey all,

Thanks to everyone for the replies, glad you liked the video …

front projection is still on the todolist, but you could use a full screen semi-transparent
quad with video texture for now …

I Haven’t had a chance to sign the browser plugin yet, but if that’s no problem for you guys,
I’ll put something online … however it wont work on a mac for now …

The demo video was made on a laptop with a mobile 9700. Most shaders will work
starting from VP/FP support, so that includes ATI 9500+, geForce 3+, intel 915G+.
On older cards, pim will fall back to default openGl rendering.

CPU and memory requirements depend on the scene, but are rarely the bottleneck for
pim.

Hi, first I want to compliment with you, it’s a GREAT idea and with him we lots of doors will be open for LW users. I was always affascinated about realtime shader demo. I saw lots of great things in realtime, and ine of them was realtime radiosity. Your plugin is totally in hardware acceleration so will be possible to include all the cool top games features, also the possibility to use through the java script the pixel shaders? it will be handsome.

Thanks,
Sethy

Quick questions (apologies if they have been asked / answered before, I searched through the thread and couldn’t find anything - but maybe I just missed them) :

[ul]
[li]Will PIM be able to render any resolution images to disk ? With alpha channels ? [/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]Also, will it be possible for someone to do the same thing (render to disk, in any resolution) from the standalone .exe ? (I think that’s a long shot, but I thought I 'd ask anyway ;))[/li][li]Still talking about rendering to disk, how about Antialiasing, and raytraced reflections & refractions ?[/li][/ul]Already an amazing product, so it’s only natural we 'd all like to know the details ! I 'm trying to imagine what the best use for such a tool will be.

Where did you see that wonder? Are you sure you didn´t see BAKED radiosity?

Still talking about rendering to disk, how about Antialiasing, and raytraced reflections & refractions

Well, games are already getting antialiasing from your card so I don´t see why not here. In fact I believe you could see that in that last demo posted above.
As for raytraced reflections and refractions, I´m just guessing that it won´t…I mean, that´s what you need a render for.

Was the question of using HDRI for environment reflections made? If it wasn´t…I´m doing it now

#209

hi, this is one of the example abput realtime radiosity that I found. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/nickamy/realtimerad/realtimerad.html
just write realtime radiosity on google and u’ll see. also i found realtime subsurface scattering and lots of effects. Anyway also taking all the nvidia demos on their website to see how many realtime effect can be added, there were a lot!

bye, Sethy.

#210

uh, yes please! i can find a pc to test it on ;).

so yeah, Netvudu has the right idea. what about HDRI?

#211

Yeah, that’s what threw me I went to view this cool work in progress and it does look cool make no mistake. But I would suggest taking some time to generate a website that will outline this product a bit more clearly.

What I saw was attached to a website about Belgian Badminton in Flemmish. Not that I have anything against Belgians, Flems, or Badminton (Been to Belgium Love the people, LOVE the beer, can’t wait to go back) but it would help answer a lot of questions and ease some of the appearent confusion.

It looks great we could have really used thus tool two years ago as I had built a lot of scenes for a game developer who was using the Macromedia gaming engine. We did managed to make it work but there was a lot of issues and limitations.

This tool (if it is what it claims to be) will really help knock down a lot of obstacles both real and precieved. Any chance of a Mac version???

Hold on a second, A friend of mine just ordered a Mac intel laptop and I have an associate who has a windoze copy of Lightwave…hmmmmmmm

Anyway, this looks really great. Hopefully, it will live up to all of it’s claims. Good luck

#212

What, you don’t have a windows version of LW? I though every copy of LW for quite some time now has been sold as a duo-license. So you get BOTH Mac and PC -versions of LW when you buy it.

#213

Oh and the link to the pimpdemo_hi.avi isn’t working. Couldn’t download it earlier (it worked then) and now when I’d have the time I can’t :frowning: I really want to see that demo… Mirror anyone?

#214

I do but I don’t have a windoze box to run it on hence the idea of using my associate’s box. But you are indeed correct… :hmm:

Sorry if I wasn’t clear

Cheers

#215

hey all …

had to take the avi offline … badminton out of bandwith

Dear lord!

Oh my god!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Jesus, that thing is FAST. And has lot’s of really nice features. But the main thing is that it is FAST and it can show just about everything I can expect from a realtime preview. I’ve wondered for a many years now why none of the 3d-softwares use a real 3d-game engine since those have been far superior to anything we’ve seen in 3d-softwares. Now I don’t have to wonder anymore since we have it right inside Lightwave

If you wanna know, you may have just prevented me from jumping into XSI camp. That’s how sweet Poetry in Motion looks like. Unbelievable work, big thumbs up!

#217

wow

#218

that’s very impressive

#219

dear niklas

Stay whereever you are, do not jump anywhere…

And i totally agree, Enki has dropped a bomb in Lightwave’s heart and the limits of its users minds. Like you and other wavers clearly noted he managed to merge the insane power of 3d cards and Lightwave together for unknown even unimagined possibilities.

For years we were destined standing still, i think this community deserves to JUMP FORWARD with this kind of development news.

Wow, this is excellent…
