Convert 3D MAX modeling to Rhino

#1

Hi

I am doing architecture work and learning 3D max these days.
Ive got a 3d max modeling and try to import it to Rhino for editing. Ive tried exporting as obj file
from 3D max and import it in Rhino. However, when i turn the meshes to nurbs, the polygon faces are messed up like many useless triangles appeared. I`ve searched some information maybe that is because of the ‘bad meshes’. But im not sure about it.

Any idea how to convert max modeling to Rhino the cleanest way?

Editing 3ds max models in Rhino is an odd way of doing things, but don’t convert it to NURBS. Rhino3D can accept Subdivision surfaces, AKA Polygons. If you want to see the vertices in Rhino you go to “Curve tools” and select: “Show object control points.”

Thanks for your replying.

When i import the max file in Rhino, all of the objects were meshes. However, I want to handle the the surfaces and vertices accurate way and im familiar with works on polysurfaces. So I use “Convert to nurbs” command to turn the objects in meshes to polysurfaces but it makes the faces messed up.

Is there a way to import the max file directly to polysurfaces in Rhino if i would not like to work on mesh objects?

In Rhino3D I think you want “Cage” and then “CageEdit”. A bit like an FFD modifier in 3ds max. That will give you “NURBS like” control.

Although I don’t understand why you want to edit meshes made in 3ds max in Rhino.
