I think a competition would be a really good idea, but maybe it’d be more achievable goal if you started on a slightly smaller arena. Maybe a game design document competition as an initial project would be more inviting. There are lots of people in this game development folder with ideas which they want to progress but there doesn’t seem to be any avenues to push their intellect in game design. If you want to be a game designer, if you want to develop your own products, it should involve the creation of a Design Document.

Because game development is still a bit of a black art, not enough is known about how you go about outlining how a game works. Maybe a competition on this board would be a good place to hone everybody’s skills. Then if you do have a really good idea and want to take it to a publisher you’ll be in a stronger position to do it, or again if the idea is good, maybe a few artist and programmers could team up, to develop it.

Just as an idea, it could include an outline of the games scope, character design, level design and mock up screenshots, you could also include programming tests if you are able to.
