Hey guys, quick question:
I’m going to be comping some shots for a short film and we’ve decided the best way to get the footage to me is through upload/download through FTP or some similar service. The client offered to either post them up in the raw RED format, or to give me the Apple prores of the clips straight from the edit.
Will the compression of the apple prores codec make a difference for tracking/colors? Does Prores even compress the footage at all or is it lossless? I know it’s a bit knit picky but some of the shots are going to be quite tough to track and I don’t want to make my life even harder
Compression for tracking
I don’t think Prores will be trouble to you… What kind of tracking will be necessary? Camera tracking?
Don’t be a afraid to make some color correction or other intervention in your footage to make your scene able to track. When it is necessary, I create/convert footages and make special composites to track and use this information on “real composite” without any changes like cc, etc.
So, if you have some worry about prores you can take Red format and convert to some image sequence to use to track.
Good work.
Just use pro res hq straight exported from the edit and you should be fine. If you need help with pftrack let me know, thanks.
churroboy is right, ProRes is a good format. Did you make any progress?
I usually work with Pftrack too, we can help you with it is needed.
Best
