composite a glass in photograph? noob question...

#1

so maybe this question has been asked b4 by others but i dunno what to search for, and here i m asking again…

i have 3d render of glass using mental ray in maya, using mia_material, looks pretty good with hdri env map…

i have a picture taken on a cannon sg7 of my apt .

i want to composite the 3d glass in my apt picture with me holding it.

some questions that pops in my head is, do i need to

  1. is it easier to do it in photoshp? how do i get my fingers to refract/reflect correctly in photoshop holding the glass…

  2. some how magically create an hdri env map of my apt using cannon sg7? i have no idea how, to get the correct refleciton/refraction and lighting of of the glass, so when i put it in my picture it looks like it belongs there…

  3. i have no idea how to do this in AE, i did googled ‘aftereffects compositing glass’ with no high relavant search results…maybe ppl here might have a better suggestion on what to search for.

thanks in advance,
yohshi

Not possible. You cannot get physical refractions with a 2D representation, at best you can get fake distortions with displacement effects. Entirely wrong approach. Needs to be done in a 3D program. And “magically”? You’re frakkin’ kidding, are you? Please read the Photoshop help for requirements on creating panoramic images and HDR content using Photomerge tools.
