combustion timewarping question

#1

hi guys!

I have been dealing with a problem in combustion which I dont seem to find the answer

this is what I want to achieve: I have a footage of a sequence of images that I want to hold at first the first frame and at the end I want to hold the last frame for a moment

so first I put Hold last frame to the fooage so I can extend the lenght of it in the timeline, then I add a timewarp operator to the footage and I move the 2 points that have the animation forward so it will start after a few seconds

the problem is that when I add the timewarp operator the lenght of the layer that hold this elements gets shorter again to the original lenght of the footage and I can`t extend it anymore

does anyone have any idea of this? I`d really appreciate some help on that!

cheers

Normally I place 2 keyframes for each “hold frame” and increase the duration of the composition, “Composite op”

thanks! but I still can`t solve it

I have attached an image as example

you can see on the top image that when timewarp is off I can extend the length of the layer “animacion” as I want

on the second image when I turn it on the length of the layer gets back to the original length of the footage (I have set the footage property of hold last frame so I can extend it on the timeline), in this case H stands for hold and S for sequence, in the example I want to hold the first and last frame so that`s why I have 4 keyframes

anybody have any why the layer length is readjusting when I use timewarp?

or maybe I am doing it wrong, I am only using timewarp to hold frames, not to readjust timming speeds, S.O.S !!

thanks in advance!

I guess you must go to footage control, output and change the end behavior from “Stop At End” to “Hold Last Frame”.

To create a complete stop to your motion, you must copy the same value (Speed) between two “timing” keyframes and change the interpolation on second one to a “linear”, if not then you will have a wobble effect (back and forth) because the interpolation is by default bezier. Good luck.

thank Pezik, I did that already, I set it to hold last frame and also make the hold curve to be linear, that`s all good, the problem is when I check on the branch that the layer that contains it remains shorter, the actual length of the sequence, that happens if timewarp is activated

any idea?

thanks!

I see your problem now, you have to precomp the sequence that you are going to timewarp “aka nesting”.

Cut your timewarp operator and precomp your sequence, then paste the timewarp operator on the new comp, now you haven’t lost any of your work. Press play to see all the glory
