Combustion RPF motionblur problem

#1

problem is. I’ve rendered an animation from max7 in rpf format, everything in rpf turned on.

I want rpf motionblur in combustion, but NOTHING happens when I ad the operator, i’ve turned rpf motion blur up to 100, nothing happens.

it’s rendered with brazil, and the max file is in layers, but that shouldn’t have anything to say right?

can anyone help, I really need this to work.

-Thanks

Hi
I would suggest you to apply a show G-Buffer operator to verify if there is a velocity channel.
I haven´t worked with brazil until now, but sometimes these 3rdparty renderer do not support all G-Buffer channels.
In that case you have to render out with scanline renderer and apply a standard material to speed up the render to get the velocity.

Have you enabled Image Motion blur on all the objects that need to be blured in max? If you don’t enable Image Motion blur you will get a black velocity channel.

Hi guys, thanks… I suspect that it is that g-buffer thing, that brazil doesn’t do right. I cant render it in scanline, cause of many resons. I’ll just render it with cameramotionblur from max, takes longer time, but it’s easy and safe, and it looks good…

thanks anyways

Hi!

In Vray u have to turn on the g-buffer channels u want before rendering, i usually turn on all and just picks the one i need in the rpf setup. i’m sure u can do it with brazil to. just search the help for g-buffer or something. U can save alot of time using it on this project and future ones. So i recommend it

No you have to enable Image motion blur on the object. If you want to do it in post don’t enable Vector Motion Blur in the Brazil render options.

ok, thats new to me, thats not the approach in vray , but anyway, its a time saver and it is more the worth the time to learn

Hi,

I am having the same problem rendering with mental ray in max 7.5. As far as I can tell mr does not support the velocity g buffer type. What I want to do is save out a seperate scene and apply a grey material to all objects and turn of shadows to speed up rendertimes. Basically I want a seperate .rpf pass that has the required velocity channel. My question is, does anyone have any idea on how to use or take the velocity info from one piece of footage and use it to motion blur the mr footage. Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Combustion 4 supports this through the rpf builder which allows you to build rpfs from seperate image files or change channels in an already made rpf file. There is also RE:Vision Effects ReelSmart Motion Blur which allows you to motion blur using velocity channel data.

thanks for the reply. It seems to me that getting ahold of combustion 4 would be the easiest thing for me. When on the RE:vision effect site it looked like the free motion vector shader for max 7.0 mental ray is currently unavailable.
