Combustion & PSD layers

#1

I try to import my 3d rendered footage in PSD format with 5 layers to a new 2d composite in combustion…
But it seems that I can just see the 1st frame… unless I import the footage as a “merged image” that is not really an option for me…
I am new to combustion so it might be a stupid question but I can’t guess if I am doing something wrong or if there is a limitation in combustion that would be a pity with PSD format

PS: I am trying combustion4

#2

Import the PSD, use Nested (composite) or grouped (only layers)

#3

That is what I was trying to do :frowning:
And all the frames except the first one were black (on all imported layers)
Again when I import the same psd files as merged everything runs smoothly…

I turned around the problem finishing by splitting my psd in tiffs with batch command in photoshop, it took an eternity to accomplish but it is done… and imported in separated layers in combustion…

I really don’t understand where the problem comes from…

#4

Where is the footage generated?
stranger:eek:

#5

the footage comes from 3ds max using the cebas psd manager…

#6

Tried with other files?
Can you use other files formats ( targa, rpf) ?

#7

yes, usually i render the 3ds max “render elements” in separated files mainly tiffs and i have no problems.
in this case i have to use finalRender that is really faster (in my case) with my animation than vray that i was using on some other project but even if i largely prefer finalRender, it has a huge lack: there are no many “specific” finalRender “render elements” compare to vray “g-buffer output channels” and the only way to have a “node id” output channel is to render your animation in rpf format… but i don’t think you can do a network rendering in rpf format… so the only other solution i found to get a node id channel is to use cebas psd manager which renders your frames in psd format with all your render elements as layers (or mask if you chose etc) that i use for stills, so this is the solution i have chosen for the first time with an animation… and then began my problems… i had to extract my psd layers to tiffs using batch command in photoshop that i surely could do in AE much more faster but i don’t have AE here :frowning:

i really don’t have any clue why it does happen…

thank you for your interest in my problem

Edit: in fact i made a test and you can render in rpf on a network… somtimes i am just so disapointed by my so little knowledge of 3ds max after 8 years of usage
