Combustion & IMac???

#1

Hi guys,
What are you thinking about Combustion running on IMac 1.9GHz PowerPC G5
with 1.5GB 533 DDR2 SDRAM and ATI Radeon X600 Pro with 128MB DDR Video Memory?
In earlyer threads notice just a few favorable opinions on C3 & Mac. Anyway.
Is there anybody with these configuration?
I’m a big fan of Combustion, working mostly on motion design sequences
(using most of the time paint animations and 3d compositing) and don’t want jump
to other apps. Currently im running C3 on a PC in the strudio but want to purchase IMac for home use.
Thanx for any idea.

Peace always,
Mihok

Mihok,

I run C4 on the PC and C3 on the mac. it will run fine on your imac but you will notice that it’s a bit more stable and faster on the PC.

For this reason I prefer the PC version myself though you will have little problems running a mac version you will just need a little more patients.

The Apple Motion can be an option not?

Motion is an option, and a good one too, but not if you are doing Film Rez effects. Not yet anyway. Soon though.

Thanx Alan,
Now I’m more confident in my choice. As I say it in the original post,
just need a good machine for home use.

Combustion is pretty crappy under osx. I would suggest you look at another app like AE, Shake, Motion if your going to use OSX. Stick with windows if you are really stuck on Combustion.

Talked to an autodesk person today and he said it will almost certainly be out by year end. This means it is over 6months past its initial announcement date. To me, being an optimist, this means they were tweaking and tweaking the program. I wanted to ask why it was so delayed but i was in a rush and figured he’s give me some marketing / vague reply.

To me Combustion and motion make a good pair. Shake and motion would be better but get ready to shell out another $2000 for that pair. I’ve only used up to combustion 2 on my older mac and i plan on getting the V4 update as soon as it comes out. I’ll report on how it is.

I use a dual 2.3 with an ati x800 and 2.5g of ram so that may not be a great comparison to an imac, but that’s more of a speed issue than a stability issue.

Combustion is just so painful under osx, why bother? (This is coming from a fan of osx)

You’re right Beaker,

I probably going to work with Ae under OSX.
This is a bloody hell with all this windows but… i will survive.

Peace,
Mihok
