Education version is same as retail as far as I know, except a two year non-commercial license in Australia. This varies from region to region, so check with a local reseller.
On another note, why is Student Max 7 AUD$275 (Retail $5,500) and Education Combustion AUD$500 (Retail $1,500)? I am assuming because relatively few students learn combustion compared to max. Still makes me angry through. Grrrr, up yours Autodesk!
PS. Can anyone lend me AUD$500. I am good for it . . . honest!
i doubt there´s a red X in the edu version of Combustion. At studica.com, Combustion4 costs $259.00 ($995.00, retail), which to me is pretty inexpensive compared to 3ds max 7 ($649edu, $4995 com). Also, consider that After Effects 6.5 pro is $349.00 edu
I use an educational copy of Combustion from time-to-time and I can guarantee you there is no red X. Also, I have never encountered such a limitation on any educational copy of any software I have ever used.
The only restriction I’ve ever seen is some softs require you renew your license from year to year - but those are usually very inexpensive and Combustion is NOT one of them.
Also, educational copies tend to throw up a huge flash screen announcnig it’s an Educational Version not for Commercial work - probably to try and embarass anyone that tried to do so.
Make sure you check “educational” vs “student”. They are different licences and prices. Max has an educational price (price charged to institutions) and a student price (price charged to the actual students). Combustion only seems to have an educational price.
Also, max retail costs 5 times more than combustion and the educational price is little more than twice that of combustion. Pretty good deal, methinks.
