Combining Objects

#1

Hello,

Total scrub here, so bear with me please.

I’m attempting to create a very cube-based shape before I begin sculpting; that is, I’m wanting to go about sculpting by having a collection of cubes connected together first. So, I’ve created a group of cube and sphere meshes and have placed them where I wanted. Now, I want to be able to sculpt them to my liking. The problem, however, is that because all of these shapes are their own objects, I’m not capable of seamlessly scultping them: the alterations stop at the shape’s edges.

So, is there any way to combine these objects into one? I certainly don’t see an option in the Object List menu. Is there a better to go about doing this? I realize this isn’t a traditional method of sculpting, but I’m far from being a decent sculptor. Any help would be appreciated.

A second, final question… Is there a way to create symmetrical objects? I know you can sculpt and manipulate an object by using symmetry, but can you create an object (such as a cube) and have it mirrored across a particular axis?

Thanks in advanced.

well…you can not create or merge objects in mudbox. it’s just there for sculpting existing geometry…so you would have to do that in a traditional modeling app like maya, xsi, 3dsmax or any of the specialized modelers out there like silo, modo, wings etc.

Well, you can create multiple meshes side-by-side. I just thought you would be able to connect them.

Thanks for the reply–I’m off to mess with Maya.
