Combine ramp with mia material x in layerd shader

Hello everyone!

I have created a car paint combining a ramp texture and a blinn reflective coat using a layer shader in maya 2012.

I have had some issues with my lighting and I have been adviced using a mia_material_x as my wax coat so I can use its fresnel reflexion parameters; and my problems start at this point.

It seems that the layerd shader can only take the mia material x in its color, transparency and glow using the connection editor.

How can I combine a ramp texture with a reflective mia material x?

The Layered Shader has never been overly compatible with mental ray to my knowledge. Another approach would be to apply the mia_material_x to the car directly and then under the ‘Advanced’ section of it, plug your other shader into the ‘Additional Color’ slot. That will add the two shaders’ results together and because it’s just using addition, it doesn’t matter which is layered first. I’m not in front of Maya right now but I think it may come with its own mental ray mixing/layering shader these days, if you need more control like masking between the layers. :thumbsup:
