color picker sets color to background Photoshop CS4 (mac 10.5.6)

Really annoying; If I pick a color with the color picker, either from the canvas or the color window, then the chosen color is set to the background color option instead of the foreground.

I don’t what I’m doing to get it this way, but that means that I have to press “x” to swap colors after every color pick. I think that resetting my preferences will fix the issue, but there goes a lot of other things with it if I do.

I’m using a wacom tablet, and synergy to link my pc and mac. Although I don’t believe that these factors are related.

You can click on the foreground color square in the color palette which should outline that square. Wow I answered my own question.
