college hasn't started so hot... transferring information?

yeah so here’s the dish… Currently enrolled first year Champlain College, Vermont… It’s been a long week, and i just have this gut feeling that this might not be right for me. I need more art in my curriculum that will actually progress my ability… The syllabus for the graphic design degree is more on how to use the industries ‘Tools’, than on an art foundation… like who heard of a college offering an artistic degree and the school doesn’t even own a pottery wheel… <–besides the real point, but good example to simplify the ‘lack of’.

So, obviously I’m going to test the waters but when do i have to get transfer scripts sent and portfolios mailed, just in case i do want to switch schools for fall 09 semester?

Also what schools offer Graphic Design Degrees in the New England region that concentrate more on the art aspect of design and not so much the drilling of photoshop shortcuts…

Hey, I recently checked out Champlain College (drove up from New Jersey)

I was seriously considering going, but the art side of things worries me.

I am going to apply to the School of Visual Arts instead (and others possibly.)

To transfer you would probably need to finish this semester than request the transcripts from the classes you have taken. the next college should have an FAQ on there site.

I hope I helped you (and thanks for helping me see I made a wise decision for my art education) :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey There,

I am a prof at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
We have a Digital Art program that focuses on industry tools and art practice.
The first 2 years are mainly spent working in 2d, then you move into 3D. We have an active CG club, we offer an opportunity for a semester away at the gnomon school for visual fx. We also place students into internships so you have experience before you graduate.

I teach 3D, Actionscript and 2D animation.
Feel free to check out the school’s site, my portfolio and my site

We also try to get professionals from the game industry to come in.
We recently had David Blizard, a Springfield College graduate visit. If you are not familiar, he worked on lighting for the game Dead Space.

best of luck in your educational endeavors!
