Collaborative 2D art project Zoom Quilt - Very Fun!

#21

I really like this idea. I came along the finished example that russta showed a few months ago, from some weblog and I immediately thought it to be a nice idea for a project like this.

Just an idea, I don’t know if it is possible technically, but won’t it be a nice thing to create in 3d ?
If so, I would love to participate in a project doing that. Although I have little time because of school and the Minas Tirith project…

I thought having the vanishing point in the center was obvious, but yes essential. i would like to do one in 3d but i dont use 3d anymore, so i would like to continue this as 2d if possible, surely a 3d one would not need to be done like this and work work better with a few member submitting models or small scenes that are all collected together and rendered in a sequence?

yeah, sometimes the obvious isn’t so to me!
hey Pjanssen, that would be so cool! imagine a real time 3d one, where you could look around as you travel deeper into the never ending crazy artwork world! Another project me thinks. i’ve started the first frame, got a day off today so gonna try and push ahead with it.

#24

Yeah you really should let this project go on first. It will end up very nice I’m sure

At the moment I don’t have any time at all, but a project like this in 3d would be cool to keep it the back of our heads

#25

definately. do you have enough knowledge of 3d programming to attempt something like this? coz i have no idea man! But in the meantime you’re more than welcome to join in on this one, any skill is welcome!

#26

I don’t have any idea about graphic programming either. But maybe I know someone who would like to work on it.

But in the meantime you’re more than welcome to join in on this one, any skill is welcome!

Thanks. I would like to, but at the moment I don’t have time unfortunately.
But I’ll keep following this thread

would love to help… email mastermesh
att gmail dot com with subject line image quilt (I get spammed quite a bit and wouldn’t want to delete your email in error…

just got to thinking about it… Couldn’t you do this in 3d rendered to 2d by using a big torus type shape or modified wedge (lightwave primitive)… basically a really big circle thing that wraps back around itself to get the infinite zoom power. The camera would be on a spline through the center of it. Shucks you could even make it like a bunch of different donuts intersecting at a y type cross in the path. That way you can zoom in to more than one area. Make a freaking maze of the things sort of like the philisophical choose your own addventure thingy at http://www.addventure.com/ but better because it’d all be artwork. Render the camera zooming in all over the place. Put the zooms in flash (or html?) with one rendered image per frame. Clicking on frame or using arrow keys takes you to next frame forward or back in an infinite loop or interconnected infinite series of loops… there’s a LOT of really cool potential here.

sounds VERY intersting, dunno what the lightwave wedge looks like but the torus sounds like a really good idea. I think keep that in mind for the next round, ive already started this as a 2d project now, and almost finished the first frame. Do you wanna help out as a 2d artist? the more the merrier!
by the way you shouldnt post your email address on the forum like that, you’ll get spidered by a spam bot (i sound like suck a geek when i say things like that!). You can email people by clicking their name.

#29
