Cluster controlling multiple meshes

#1

Hi there,

Is it possible at all for one cluster to be controlling two meshes?

I have rigged an elderly man with clusters to control his chest cavity as he breathes, and I have just made a singlet for him as a separate mesh. I would love for the clusters that I have already skinned and animated to his main body to be able to control the mesh of his singlet too.

Is there any way to achieve this? Or do I have to just create another and reskin it and parent it to the initial cluster?

Thanks for any help.

Just copy your skin weights to the new mesh.

If you have the cluster already connected to one mesh, goto
Window>Relationship Editor>

Select your cluster in the left window, then select the other mesh in the right window.

Now goto Edit Deformers>Paint Cluster Weights Tool. There is an option in the paint cluster weights tool that lets you export maps, you could try and get this to work(might be wonky, it’s maya after all).

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! That is revolutionary considering how many times I have created multiple clusters to do the same thing.

Just to clarify for future readers of this post… You need to go to the Window > Relationship Editors > Deformer Sets and your cluster will appear (as a set, not the actual cluster) on the left.

Brilliant!

Opps, thanks for that correction, I was going off the top of my head haha.

Glad it worked.
