Good point.
Since the CG Challenge pays the bills, I will give it a couple of weeks head start.

Alright, going to show my un-enlightened self here for a moment.

What does WETA do? Iā€™ve herd the company name tossed around several times and know they do ā€œamazing workā€ on a variety of films, but in what capacity?

grantmoore3d: Ooops, saw you asked what they do. They really do a lot. For LotR they pretty much did everything. I.E. Set design, props, prosthetics, costume, CG (a good deal was contracted out I think but they were the primary CG house). For Avatar I know they did a lot of set design, costumes, props, etc. and I believe that every scene with a Naā€™vi was worked on but Iā€™m not sure in what capacity.

i spent nearly all of yesterday looking over all my Lord Of The Rings art and reference books and the extended dvdā€™sā€¦and I canā€™t choose anythingā€¦lolā€¦thereā€™s just so much awesome stuff

i did however do a sort of weta inspired piece the other day for funā€¦i did myself as an Avatar personā€¦using my portrait from the classical portrait challenge as a starting point

but yeahā€¦iā€™ll definitely be doing something LotR inspiredā€¦

hhmm question, so does this mean we choose one particular movie Weta worked on and choose either char, obj, etc that they did and remake it? Sorry if I donā€™t know a lot about this. But Iā€™m interested :slight_smile:

Well I would like to focus on the WETA Wokshop.
(As in designed and built by them)
For example the AMP suit from avatar would be out , because it was designed and
built by Stan Winston studios.

Awesome, can this be stretched to include stuff from Bad Taste or Dead Alive? Not really weta but a few of the founders worked on those.

I myself do not know a lot about weta, so I would hope that a list might be put out with some examples of acceptable ā€¦stuff

Are things like the statue of the orc in front of Blizzardā€™s headquarters an option? Itā€™s made by the Weta Workshop but itā€™s concept and design are Blizzardā€™s.
