Clarification on FOV's

Hi everyone,

just wanted to clarify something about choosing the angle of the FOV.

By default - the FOV is horizontal right? When would we actually need to use vertical angle for our shots?

I feel it has something to do with the resulting pictures dimensions but - im unclear as to why… :frowning:

a ration between width and height only requires one angle to determine both horizontal and vertical angle, the other can be derived.
Some softwares use horizontal by default, some others user vertical, and the same can be said for how some manufacturers give you their gear’s data.
They are just options, if you have no standards to go by you can pick whichever you prefer.
