Circular Room - Ambient Occlusion

#1

Hey,

I have created a low poly model of a circular home. It has 2 floors and the walls are made of ‘glass’ - well a glass shader.

I have shaded everything but the glass with white Ambient Occlusion.

When I render using Mental Ray the Image looks ok but I want to add a bit of light.

What is the best practice to light a circular house with Natural light? I am finding it difficult to work out where best to place the ‘sun’.

Is it advisable to try and light a Ambient Occlusioned scene?

Thanks
Liam

I’d use an HDR lighting mechanism for this one. IBL will really help light it up, without the issues of Portal Lights if you were using the Sun/Sky, for example. So, try a sky dome type lighting setup?

Thanks - I’ll give this a go. Didn’t have the best of look with Sun & Sky. I couldn’t quite configure how I wanted it. I’ll upload the finished video when done (fingers crossed).

Occlusion is deprecated, try a light that adds more detail like the Native IBL.
