Cipher game engine and development tools

#1

I’m evaluating various game development tools and I was wondering if anyone out there has tried using the Cipher game engine (http://www.cipherengine.com/) and its tools for making games? It seems inexpensive ($100) yet powerful, with a great license for commercial development. What do you think of it?

I have it, and I love it. The design is clean, efficient, fast and lean. I honestly don’t think you can find a better deal for a $100 (yes, including Torque).

Thanks for the info, Noxerus. I was just thinking that Cipher was the best deal out there as well.

One thing I am wondering about is the frame rate and rendering quality using that engine; does it seem a little slow, or a little behind some of the other more state-of-the-art engines (i.e. those that are perhaps DX 8.1 or 9 based) or is it just fine?

I agree though that it would seem to be an excellent (and because there are no strings attached) cheaper game engine alternative to Torque.

I’ve been considering whether to buy Cipher, or Quest3D. Quest3D’s graphics look good, but getting animated characters into it is a bit of a pain. However, its visual programming style using channel graphs seems fast, and its design allows you to create your own channels if you need additional functionality.
