Hello folks, I need your advice, please!
A 37-year-old woman, with a higher technical education and a PhD in automation of control processes. She has worked in the HR field (not IT). She has a foundation in Q Basic and Turbo Basic (just to clarify she has some learning background, but no work experience in programming). She has knowledge of mathematics, algorithms, and can create flowcharts, and is familiar with loops. She wants to break into IT. What is the best way to start? Is QA perspective better or more suitable for humanitarians? Python? Frontend? What would you recommend?
Choosing a career in programming?
I’m not a programmer but if I had to make an educated guess, the best way to break in is to do research on a specific company/companies and try to find an area in which they’re experiencing shortages.
The job market right now is incredibly saturated and a lot of companies would rather promote an existing employee than sort through a thousand resumes that get emailed on a monthly basis.
Or, if she has business skills, it would be the prefect opportunity to take her skills and start her own I.T company. After all, when you become your own boss, you get to choose your own salary, your own work schedule, your own location etc.
And not be a complete doomer, but programming and many other jobs are coming under pressure from advances in Artificial Intelligence. It doesn’t mean there’s no work in this field, but it’s something to think about in the long term.
It’s similar to being an Artist right now. People like us with years experience wont have too much trouble landing an art job. But juniors with fresh portfolios have to work 2x as hard to get noticed and not get buried by a sea of a.i generated images circulating the internet…

As per the profile, I either go Artificial Intelligence or Machine learning would suit this kind of qualification. Python is the most preferred language for that field. Again that depends upon the individual suitability and adaptability in a career. It should depend upon your personality, focus and interest.
