Character Design/ Digital Paint Book

#1

Does anyone know of a good book to use a reference guide for the development of character design and digital painting in Photoshop?

Don Seegmiller’s books on character painting are pretty decent, imo.

Those are the only one’s I’ve found so far, I suppose I’ll give them a shot. Thanks =)

There are so many resources on the web/internet that using books is kind of passé. Not that you shouldn’t but since you need stuff now and not tomorrow or two weeks from now try these links:

3D Total - check out the tutorials links, free to use and peruse. I love this site. Also if you do find you need more information further instruction - they have an online store where you can download digital PDFs of the tutorials with the assets/brushes etc included. Way cool:

Imagine FX - this is a magazine site but they have tons and tons of workshops and tutorials. If you want to learn how to draw this place has some excellent starting tutorials:

Computer Arts Magazine - another magazine site. Lot’s of tutorials - although not every one is geared toward digital painting there are quite a few available that will hone those skilz:

Here are few other sites I found just by typing in “Digital Painting Tutorial” into Google -

http://psd.tutsplus.com/articles/web/40-fascinating-digital-painting-tutorials/

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/11/13/35-incredible-digital-painting-tutorials/

Don’t forget that this site hosts a plethora of forums geared specifically at concept art and digital painting. Plus there are the Ballistic books and guides - great tutorials and information for those starting out.
