Character & Background - MIXED ???

#1

Hi Again, (it’s me the annoying one…)

I have my sequance already animated (screenshot is attached), and everything is nice and all.
But one thing bother me…

It seems that the CHARACTER is not so… Mixed up with the background of the animation, it’s a different layer… and it LOOKS LIKE it’s not in the same area…

*I’m looking for a process that I will use on the rest of my cartoons (any scene later on and not that specific scene like in the screenshot) …maybe I could save a Preset and RE-USE it within combustion… not sure, You Tell ME !

How can I make my characters to MIXED up with the backgrounds ? (diffrent case every scene) …I think there is that option for color match …thing… but I didn’t really understand if it is the Solution I’m looking for… any idea how I can solve it please (step-by-step instructions will be apreciated)

Sorry about my bad English…
THANKS !

Beyond the color as you yourselves of this you it will have that to think about the shades, depth, perspectives and etc. Many of these things you could have thought about the hour to make the drawings. you could give one studied in the resources of composition in 3D of the Combustion (lights, material…) and CC op

If I understand you right kayoto, you want to have the characters integrated with the background in one light situation.

The first method would be a color match:

  • apply a Discreet CC to your front footage
  • go to the Basics
  • use the eyedropper tools on the right to sample the color of background and source (characters)

There are a lot of more options, I recommend to read the online help about the Discreet CC.

The second method like Vympel mentioned is 3D compositing.

  • switch the output of your composite to 3D
  • turn on shading, shadows and reflections if you like
  • adjust the lights
  • adjsut each layers surface properties, they are similiar to a basic 3D Shader editor.

Last, but no least sometimes a simple trick works also.

  • apply a Tint Operator to your characters and pick a color of your background.

If you have a sky in the background, could help to apply a gradient layer in front of your composite. Play with the transfer modes and opacity

ok, neogeo51 - you understand exactly what I try to do ! (as usual LOL !)
Now… the 3D compositing <== nope, it’s not the look I’m looking for.

I did try the Ting on the character/s and it was nice… but still didn’t …mixed up well.

Please look at the attached picture above, and tell me what would you do if you want to make that character mixed up well with the background (BUT ! …still keep his original color, unlike tint that change his color amount if I want it to mixed well)

So… I was thinking about the last thing you recommanded but didn’t really understand how to make it:

If you have a sky in the background, could help to apply a gradient layer in front of your composite. Play with the transfer modes and opacity

step-by-step please ? …or as I said, have a look on the attached screenshot on the first thread, and tell me what WOULD YOU DO… and then please explain me step-by-step if it’s ok with you, thank you so much for your help !!!

Hi kayoto
I have attached a workspace with two png images for the gradient method.
Not sure if I still understand you, but the end result looks good to me.
It’s a simple 3 layer composite.

Thanks again, I looked at the file you created for me !

I also notice that when I put gaussian blur over the cahracter’s layer about 40% - 50% it makes it more mixed with the background, without change his FOCUS, I don’t want the character loose focus or that it will smudge all over his Outlines… that’s bad !

BTW - neogeo51 do you know any easy automatic way to… well I’ll just add the link and won’t copy/past it into => THIS THREAD <= I just hope there is a better way to make it blend Only the 2 or 3 colors (without the outline to smudge all over the place).

Hi Kayoto
I have figured out a method, but it only works if you seperate all (black lines eyes…) except the dark and light blue area on an extra layer.
I don’t know if you draw with a tablet or by hand. Seperating the lines with a tablet a much easier because you can draw in layers.
Anyway you may have a look at the workspace. The composite isn’t perfect because the lines appear still on the background layer.
