Changing career. Have an art degree but need more training?

#1

(Tried to search with keywords such as “degree”,“training” and “additional” but didn’t find much. )
Can you guys please give me some advice and insights? Thanks in advance!

I graduated with 2 degrees: 1 in MIS and 1 lighter(less credits) degree in art(painting&design). I have been working in the IT industry for about 2 years and now considering changing career. However, my school focused more on creativity and innovation than skills and techniques, so I feel my skills are not solid enough for my dream job - concept artist…

I’m thinking about getting some additional training. What would you guys recommend? grad school? certificates? concept art program (like Feng Zhu school of design)? online courses? continuing education? or self- education? I tried to research online but since i’m inexperienced in this industry I m not sure how to interpret the info i got …
I’m kind of old,and broke lol, so 1~2 years program would be great.

It’s going to be a very important decision. Any insight and advice would be appreciated!

I was in the same boat. I graduated with a BFA in Art & Technology which taught me quite a bit about art but not enough on the technical side of things. When I graduated I had to get a job as a web designer because i just didn’t feel confident in my 3d skills. So after 4 years of web designing I recently started going to Gnomon School full time. I’m doing a one year custom track to get my portfolio up to par and I have to say, so far so good.

I am confident that after a year of full time classes, I’ll be prepared with the skills and have a strong portfolio to get into the industry.

Good luck.
